About   EXETER WEST LIONS CLUB (CIO)

The Club was formed in 1971 and Membership currently stands at 30 with 24 men and 6 ladies.  The community that we serve stretches from the River Exe in the east to Newton Abbot in the West.

From June 2018,we are now a CHARITY INCORPORATED ORGANISATION number 1178698

WHO ARE THE LIONS?

Club Members are people who

- wish to give something back to their community

- seek out areas of need and set about meeting those needs

- enjoy working together to help those less fortunate than themselves

The Club is part of the world's largest service organisation whose motto is  "WE SERVE".

CLUB ACTIVITIES

The primary activities are:

WELFARE - Identifying the needs of our community

FUND RAISING - Planning ways of raising funds to meet agreed welfare requirements.

- The Club also supports the International Association of Lions Clubs in their worldwide activities e.g.

- Eliminating curable blindness

- Water Aid

- Disaster Relief work

- Youth programmes

- Eradication of measles

SOME RECENT WELFARE ACTIVITIES OF OUR CLUB

- Providing a deserving family with a week's holiday in Newquay

- Regularly collecting used spectacles and sending them to third world countries

- Regularly helping in the Hospiscare Warehouse at Marsh Barton

- Regularly providing the Lions Message in a Bottle service

- Collecting and sending to South Africa used hearing aids for needy children

- Donations to West Exe Football team and Alphington Youth Football Tournament

 -Acorns and Squirrels Alphington,Riding for the disabled--towards a Welsh cob horse and a blanket -  for him

-To Hearing Dogs,which help disabled people

-Helping to fund breaks for Young Carers

Donation towards Diabetic Screening at the Devon County Show

Purchase of 6 tents for the Air Cadets

To St. Petrocks for Christmas meals for homeless people

To REACH, a skilled volunteering charity

To St.Thomas school for a needy child's residential course at Pixies Holt

Donation and help to get Exwick Community Centre,garden tools,planting materials,seeds, and a wooden shed to store it all in,for their gardening project,to make waste ground into a garden.

To Equip a house for Trafficked women, with some needed furniture

To the St.Thomas Memory Cafe,to pay the rent for one year on a bigger room to meet in.

To Home-Start towards volunteers training courses,to help struggling families.

To Cancer Research UK.


SOME RECENT FUNDRAISING BY THE LIONS CLUB OF EXETER WEST

- A 10 pin bowling evening at Haven Banks alley,21 teams each person paying to play,alley kindly provided free of charge by the owners of the alley.We raised over 1000 and donated.money to Exeter Leukaemia fund and other charities..

- Manning  Car Boot Sales at Matford

-Two stalls at Tedburn Fete,a cake stall and a "win a bottle of wine" stall ,and raised over 200

All of the monies we raise goes to charity - there are no deductions for administration costs.
