Lions Peace Poster Contest

This year three local primary schools took part in the recent Peace Poster competition organised by Exeter West Lions and sponsored by Lions International.  In all  65  children gave their interpretation of this year’s theme ‘Share Peace’.  The entries were judged by local artist Sheila Westcott, taking account of artistic merit, originality and interpretation of the theme. She found the standard  of entries to be very high, and described the poster of the overall  winner, eleven year old Maizie-Mae from Kenton Primary school, as a “highly original, very well executed piece of art which clearly expresses the theme”.

The winner’s work will go on to be judged at the next level. Lion Keith Worters, who had oversight of the local contest, said he rated it very highly, and had high hopes that it would do well.

Those who came first and second in each school  were given prizes of art materials during ceremonies in individual schools, and all those who participated were given certificates.

Winners were:       Kenton Primary         1. Maizie-Mae Patrick 2. Charlotte Appleton-Pilbeam

Club members regularly help out at the weekly car boot sale in Marsh Barton. On Sunday 17th May 2015 we raised the sum of £607 from the gate and, as a special one-off we were permitted to do a bucket collection in aid of the Nepal Earthquake Appeal which raised £92.18. And on Sunday 24th May we raised an additional £540 from the gate and we were again permitted to do a bucket collection for Napal which raised £13.41, giving us an overall total of £1147 from the gate and £125.59 for the Napal Earthquake Appeal.

Our annual Casino Night, which was held on the 7th March 2015, raised a total of £2,375, of which £1,000 will go to Alzheimer's/Dementia Care. The Club would like to thank everyone involved in this event, particularly everyone who attended and gave so generously and made it such a success.
